Noble is an intimate original oil painting by Ashleigh Ritchie, celebrating the quiet strength and gentle heart of her loyal black Labrador–Springer Spaniel cross, Zeus. At ten years old, Zeus carries himself with a noble presence — the kind that only comes from years of companionship, shared adventures, and steadfast love.
Emerging from a frame of soft, green leaves, his deep brown eyes meet the viewer with a calm, unwavering gaze. There’s a story in those eyes — of muddy walks, sunny afternoons, and countless moments where no words were needed to feel understood. His sleek black coat, touched with silver-grey wisps, is painted with delicate, layered brushstrokes, each one capturing the play of light across the curves of his face and the familiar texture of his fur.
The surrounding foliage adds a sense of intimacy and stillness, as though we’ve caught him in a quiet moment of watchfulness, yet his presence radiates warmth. The composition draws you in, inviting you to pause and see not just a dog, but a lifelong friend — a guardian, a confidant, and a soul with as much depth as any human portrait.
Balancing realism with tenderness, Zeus is more than a likeness; it’s a love letter to the enduring bond between a dog and their human — steadfast, timeless, and irreplaceable.

Innocent Reverie is an original oil painting by Ashleigh Ritchie, inspired by her daughter, Lily. Painted in profile, her expression is calm yet quietly radiant — the kind of gentle confidence that lingers in childhood moments when the world feels both vast and close. Her golden curls spill softly over her shoulder, strands catching light like threads of honey.
Crowning her head is an intricate arrangement of flowers and foliage, each chosen and painted with intention. Bold turquoise petals press forward with vitality, while deep red textures ground the composition with warmth and depth. Pale white blooms, clusters of ochre-yellow, and spirals of green foliage weave together into a crown that feels both earthly and otherworldly — a living emblem of imagination and growth. The moody navy backdrop amplifies her stillness, inviting the viewer to pause and lean into her quiet presence.
Delicate streaks of burnished gold break across the canvas edges, their irregular shimmer suggesting time’s passage and the fragile nature of memory. They act almost like a frame within the painting, reminding us that this portrait, though timeless in feeling, captures a fleeting season of life.
In Innocent Reverie, Ashleigh weaves together the intimacy of motherhood with her fascination for nature and symbolism. The painting does not simply depict Lily but suspends her in a moment between innocence and becoming — a child held within the dreamlike space of growth, wonder, and imagination.

Floral Elegance by Ashleigh Ritchie is a close-up painted portrait of the artist’s daughter, Lily, her striking blue eyes holding the viewer’s gaze. Sheep Wearing Grass Crown is an original woodcut print by Ashleigh Ritchie, portraying a sheep crowned with long blades of grass like a regal headdress. The bold, carved lines capture both the quiet dignity and rustic charm of this familiar countryside animal, while the crown of grasses adds a whimsical, almost mythical quality.
The strength of the woodcut medium lies in its contrasts — the deep blacks of the ink against the clean paper surface draw out the intricate textures of fleece and the expressive details of the sheep’s face. Without colour, the image becomes timeless, celebrating form, texture, and the enduring tradition of relief printmaking.
At once playful and stately, Sheep Wearing Grass Crown reflects Ashleigh’s ability to blend character, symbolism, and humour into her printmaking practice. The sheep, often a humble figure in the rural landscape, is here reimagined with quiet majesty, crowned by the land it grazes upon.
Each print is hand-pulled, signed, and numbered by the artist. The edition is strictly limited to 10 prints only, making each one a unique part of this series.

Bold as Brass is an original oil painting by Ashleigh Ritchie, created for Day 2 of the Rangiora Art Society’s annual 30-day challenge. The composition highlights the interplay of light and surface, with the pot’s warm metallic tones reflecting subtle shifts in colour, while the plant’s bold leaves anchor the piece with their sculptural presence. Each day in June, artists are given a theme to spark new ideas — and for this piece, Ashleigh turned to something deeply personal: her own bridal hairstyle from her wedding day.
The composition captures the intricacy of carefully curled and pinned hair, every strand painted with patience and intention. Against a moody green background, the luminous tones of golds, browns, and subtle highlights bring a sense of life and texture to the work, celebrating a moment of intimacy and memory rather than a traditional portrait.

My Favourite Space is a deeply personal oil painting by Ashleigh Ritchie, created for Day 15 of the Rangiora Art Society’s annual 30-day challenge. The piece depicts the artist’s own bedroom, a place of rest and comfort, rendered in warm, rusty tones. With its earthy bedspread, soft pillows, and a simple wooden frame, the painting captures the quiet familiarity of a space that holds both calm and belonging.
The choice of colour is deliberate — the rich, rusty hues paired with a grounding green cushion create a palette that feels warm, nostalgic, and intimate. This is not just a room, but a reflection of the artist’s sanctuary: a space to dream, recharge, and feel at ease. The small, personal details, such as the bedside wall lamp, heighten the sense of lived-in comfort.
Through this work, Ashleigh transforms a private everyday space into something universally relatable. It is a reminder that favourite places don’t need to be grand or far away; sometimes they are simply the quiet corners of our own lives where we feel most at home.

The Way Back is an oil painting by Ashleigh Ritchie, created for Day 16 of the Rangiora Art Society’s annual 30-day challenge. The work depicts a richly painted green wooden door, its surface marked by age and wear, with a warm bronze handle and keyhole at its centre. The composition draws the eye toward the suggestion of something hidden just beyond, inviting curiosity about what lies behind.
The deep, earthy greens contrast with the warm metallic tones of the handle, creating a sense of mystery and nostalgia. There is a tactile quality to the work — the uneven textures of the door, the worn edges, and the sense of passage all suggest stories long held within.
The play of shadow and colour enhances the depth, pulling the viewer into the quiet drama of a threshold not yet crossed.

A portrait of charm, nature, and warmth, Flora & Freckles is as much about the feeling it evokes as the subject herself — a celebration of lighthearted moments and the beauty of everyday wonder.

Moss & Bone by Ashleigh Ritchie is a painted portrait of a deer, its antlers adorned with moss and delicate ferns, a symbol of the quiet majesty of New Zealand’s native forests. Its soft, watchful eyes hold a gentle curiosity, inviting the viewer into a serene and almost mystical woodland moment.
Every detail — from the textured fur to the intricate moss and curling fern fronds — is rendered with careful, deliberate attention, bringing the tactile beauty of the forest into the composition. The earthy palette of greens, browns, and soft golden light evokes the lush, shaded world of Aotearoa’s bush, where every leaf and tendril contributes to a sense of depth, life, and natural harmony.
Rather than a posed scene, the deer feels alive and present, a quiet witness to the stillness of the forest. Moss & Bonecelebrates the delicate balance of wildlife and nature, capturing the wonder of New Zealand’s moss- and fern-filled landscapes and the serene grace of the creatures that inhabit them.
Painted by Ashleigh Ritchie, this work is a tribute to the gentle magic of New Zealand’s bush and its quiet, watchful inhabitants.

Mossy Morag is an original oil painting by Ashleigh Ritchie, celebrating the gentle spirit and grounded beauty of the Highland cow, entwined with the richness of New Zealand’s native forests. With her warm russet coat and steady gaze, Morag carries the quiet strength of her Highland heritage while becoming part of the living landscape of Aotearoa.
Her deep brown eyes meet the viewer with calm assurance, reflecting a patience that feels timeless. Across her tousled fringe, soft mosses and fresh green leaves rest as if gathered from the damp, shaded forest floor — a crown shaped by nature itself. Each brushstroke brings together the familiar shaggy texture of her coat with the layered detail of forest growth, creating a seamless connection between animal and earth.
The surrounding greenery deepens the sense of harmony, drawing us into a world where the forest and its creatures belong to one another. Morag seems to carry the wild places with her — a reminder of resilience, connection, and the quiet magic woven through New Zealand’s native bush.
Balancing realism with a touch of forest enchantment, Mossy Morag is more than a likeness; it is a celebration of nature’s strength and beauty embodied in the living spirit of the Highland cow — earthy, rooted, and deeply soulful.

The delicate integration of the flower with Lily’s features echoes Magritte’s signature style, while Ashleigh’s careful brushwork and nuanced colour palette bring warmth and intimacy to the piece.

Night Owl is an oil painting by Ashleigh Ritchie, created for Day 19 of the Rangiora Art Society’s annual 30-day challenge. The work depicts Ashleigh and her young son, Luke, seated together on the bed, gazing out through open curtains into the quiet of the night. Painted in soft, muted tones, the scene captures a tender moment of wakefulness — one filled with stillness, comfort, and shared wonder.
The gentle glow beyond the window contrasts with the darker interior, creating a moody atmosphere that feels both intimate and contemplative. The setting of the bed grounds the piece in domestic familiarity, while the open curtains suggest both vulnerability and curiosity — a world beyond, glimpsed in the silence of night. This balance between the private and the expansive makes the painting resonate with a quiet emotional weight.
Through Night Owl, Ashleigh reflects on the small but profound moments of parenthood: the late-night hours when the world is hushed, and connection feels at its deepest. It is at once personal and universal, inviting viewers to share in that fragile, fleeting pause.
The original artwork is still available, and limited edition fine art prints are also offered. Each print is signed and dated by the artist, produced on archival ILFORD Galerie textured cotton rag 310gsm paper to preserve the richness of tone and detail.
