NZ Native Weka Collection | Intaglio Print

from $130.00
Weka Intaglio Print Collection:

NZ Native Weka – Intaglio Print Series is a collection of original etchings by Ashleigh Ritchie, created between 2015–2022. The works explore the inquisitive and bold spirit of the weka, a ground-dwelling bird well-known across New Zealand for its cheeky personality.

Through finely etched linework and hand-applied watercolour, the series captures both the character and intricate details of the bird — from full studies of its stance and feathers to intimate portraits of its eye, beak, and foot. Each image reflects the curiosity and resilience of the species, whose presence remains a lively part of Aotearoa’s natural heritage.

The original printing plates are no longer in production. Each edition is hand-coloured, signed, dated, and numbered by the artist, making every piece unique. Limited to just 10 impressions per imagery, these prints preserve the individuality and rarity of the traditional intaglio process.

Limited edition prints are produced on archival Fabriano Tiepolo White 290gsm paper using Charbonnel Carbon Black etching ink, with delicate watercolour accents that enhance the tonal depth and texture of the medium.

Care Instructions – Intaglio Prints by Ashleigh Ritchie
Each intaglio print is an original artwork, hand-pulled from the zinc plate and finished with delicate watercolour accents. Printed using Charbonnel carbon black etching ink on archival Fabriano Tiepolo 290gsm paper, these works are designed to last for generations when cared for properly.
Please follow the guidelines below to help preserve the beauty and integrity of your print:

Handle your print with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils or marks.
Always support the paper fully when moving, and hold only by the edges.
Avoid touching the printed or hand-coloured surface directly, as it is delicate and may smudge or mark.

Keep your print out of direct sunlight to prevent fading or discolouration of both ink and hand-applied watercolour.
For long-term display, framing with UV-protective glass is strongly recommended.

Display in a stable environment, avoiding areas with high humidity or fluctuating temperature.
Do not hang above heaters, fireplaces, or in damp areas such as bathrooms.
Prints are best placed in quieter spaces where they are less likely to be knocked or scratched.

Do not attempt to clean the surface of the print with water or sprays.
To remove dust, lightly use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth on the frame or mat only — never touch the print surface itself.

Prints are shipped flat, packaged in archival protective sleeves with rigid backing for safe transport.
If storing, keep your print flat in its sleeve in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, heat, or moisture.
Avoid stacking heavy objects on top of your print.

With careful handling and the right conditions, your Ashleigh Ritchie intaglio print will remain a treasured piece for many years to come.
